Señora Perry’s weekly Spanish class is designed for students both new to Spanish as well as for those wishing to increase their Spanish vocabulary. Students will thrive in this high-energy immersion approach where they play games, sing, role-play, and participate in cultural celebrations. In addition, a packet of materials will be provided in class in which students will track their progress with reading and writing in Spanish.

Spanish Class
¡Saludos! My name is Maggie Perry and I will be offering after school Spanish classes for students in Grades 1 – 8. I was raised in Chula Vista and attended St. Rose of Lima School and Our Lady of Peace High School. I received my Master of Arts in Teaching and Spanish Teaching Credential through the University of San Diego. Over the course of the last 15 years, I have taught Spanish and Latin to students in Kindergarten through High School. I have two sons that attend St. Columba School.
My goals for the Spanish students at St. Columba School are to engage in basic conversations, read and comprehend level-appropriate text, and to write using grammar concepts presented at their grade level. To achieve maximum engagement and participation in Spanish, I implement a variety of activities, games, music, and on-line resources. Vocabulary highlights for the primary grades include greetings, family members, colors, animals, emotions, food, the calendar, and numbers. Students at the secondary level will expand upon these fundamentals by practicing grammatical structures such as personal pronouns and verb conjugations in order to express themselves in daily situations. Additionally, as students learn about holidays celebrated in Spanish speaking communities, they will gain an appreciation and understanding of cultures and traditions. Along with my fellow St. Columba families, I look forward to promoting students’ exploration of Spanish, and I will strive to provide the linguistic tools and meaning experiences to do so.
