Dear Saint Columba families,

My name is Rebekah Gonzalez and I am the 3rd grade teacher at St. Columba. This 2017-2018 school year will be my 10th year as an elementary teacher for the San Diego Catholic Diocese . I am a San Diego native and attended San Diego State University, receiving my BA music in 2003 and teaching credential 2006. I simply love 3rd grade and enjoy every minute of growth that I witness on a day to day basis. Your child will accomplish great things this year with all of the challenges that it has to offer. Please feel free to contact me or to stop by my classroom this summer as I prepare for a fantastic 3rd grade year.

Summer Flat Jesus Project: All Saint Columba students will be involved in a very fun and exciting project based on the book Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown. In the book, a boy named Stanley  is flattened by a falling bulletin and ,despite his flat form, has many exciting life adventures.

In our project, Flat Jesus, the students will be taking home a cardstock figure of Jesus. This Jesus will accompany the children through all of this 2017 summer vacation. We know that Jesus is always with us, so we will treat Jesus as a guest over the summer, taking him on all of our summer travels.

Mrs. Goncalves, our 2nd Grade teacher, has distributed the Jesus craft and He is ready to go. What you will need to do and have prepared for our first week of school in August:

  • Your flat Jesus (5 points Art)
  • at least 3 photos of you with your Jesus craft (3 points Art)
  • at least 3 descriptions of the different activities that you did with your Jesus. Descriptions should be written in complete sentences. (15 points Language Arts)
  • Make a list of all of different cities, states and/or countries that you and your Jesus visited. (10 points Social Studies)
